Background & Aims:
Test anxiety as a situation dependent anxiety can cause a significant reduction in the ability of students in dealing with tests. The present study was designed to investigate the effect of mindfulness based cognitive therapy (MBCT) on anxiety and positive meta-cognitive beliefs about worry in students with test anxiety.
Materials & Methods:
This study is quasi-experimental with the pretest-posttest design. The studied population was all the high school students of first to third grade in Bozorgmehr high school, Sari, Mazandaran. 16 students who have taken TAI diagnostic test (test anxiety inventory) and shown the test anxiety symptoms were chosen by convenient sampling method and were randomly divided into two equal (8 participants) groups: Experimental and control groups. The experimental group was receiving mindfulness based cognitive therapy for 8 sessions while the control group did not receive any intervention. The obtained data were analyzed by covariance method (ANCOVA).
Results:
The results of this study indicate that MBCT is effective and useful strategies in reducing anxiety and meta-cognitive beliefs about worry in students with test anxiety.
Conclusion:
According to the results, MBCT can be effective in decreasing test anxiety in high school students.
