Abstract: (100 Views)
This study aims to examine the relationship between social and emotional loneliness, cognitive self-awareness, and fear of negative evaluation in women seeking cosmetic surgery. The research method is descriptive and falls within the realm of correlational studies. The statistical population of the study consisted of all women visiting cosmetic surgery clinics in districts 5 and 6 of Tehran in 2024, from which 200 individuals were selected as the sample using convenience sampling. The research instruments included the DeTommaso Social and Emotional Loneliness Scale for Adults (2004), the Wells Cognitive Self-Awareness Questionnaire (2004), and the Leary Fear of Negative Evaluation Scale (1983). Data were analyzed using Pearson correlation coefficient and the SPSS-26 software. The results of the data analysis indicated a significant negative correlation between social and emotional loneliness and cognitive self-awareness in women seeking cosmetic surgery (P<0.05). Additionally, there was a significant positive relationship between social and emotional loneliness and fear of negative evaluation in these women (P<0.05). Furthermore, a significant negative correlation was found between fear of negative evaluation and cognitive self-awareness in women seeking cosmetic surgery (P<0.05). Based on these findings, it is recommended that interventions aimed at enhancing cognitive self-awareness and reducing social and emotional loneliness, as well as fear of negative evaluation, be implemented in school counseling centers, mental health service centers, and psychological clinics to reduce unnecessary cosmetic surgeries.
