Objective: The aim of this study was to investigate the effectiveness of listening to music (music therapy) on mental health in students of Islamic Azad University, North Tehran Branch. Method: The present study is a quasi-experimental study of pre-test-post-test with a control group. The statistical population of this study included all students of the Faculty of Science and Literature of Islamic Azad University, North Tehran Branch in 1396. Thirty students were selected by non-random sampling method and available in two groups of control (15 people) and experimental (15) people. Also, the homogenization of control and experimental groups was done based on characteristics such as age, economic status, employment status, level of education ... Goldberg (1972) mental health questionnaire with a reliability of 0.89 was used to collect data. Also, music therapy sessions were performed in 8 sessions of 60 minutes on the subjects in the experimental group, then both groups performed the post-test. Data were analyzed using one-way intergroup covariance analysis. The results showed a significant difference between the mean scores of the two groups in the general post-tests and in the dimensions of the subscales proposed in this study. Results: The results showed that music therapy significantly increased the mental health of the experimental group compared to the control group (P <0.05). Conclusion: The effectiveness of music therapy on all subscales of the Goldberg Mental Health Questionnaire including: social function, physical symptoms, anxiety and depression was confirmed with 95% confidence.
