Background & Aims: substance abuse disorder can make many substances dependent patients suffer from psychological disorders, including anxiety and depression, and causes a decrease in psychological well-being. The present study was conducted with the aim of the effectiveness of group spirituality therapy on the psychological well-being and self-compassion of substance-dependent people undergoing maintenance treatment. Materials & Methods: The current research design was semi-experimental with pre-test-post-test and control group. The statistical population included all those who referred to addiction treatment centers in Tabriz city in 1402. From among the statistical population, 30 people were selected by purposeful sampling considering the entry and exit criteria and randomly replaced in two experimental and control groups (15 people in each group). The experimental group underwent 12 sessions of 90 minutes group spiritual therapy. The data collection tool was Riff's psychological well-being questionnaire (1989) and Rees et al.'s self-compassion (2011). Data were analyzed through univariate and multivariate analysis of covariance. Results: The results showed that group spirituality therapy is effective on the psychological well-being and self-compassion of substance dependent people undergoing maintenance treatment (p<0.50).Conclusion: Therefore, in the field of health related to substance dependent people, interventions based on spirituality can be used to improve the mental health of these people, because spiritual therapy can be effective in increasing psychological well-being and self-compassion in these people.
