Abstract:   (320 Views)
Mindfulness for psychosis research has grown exponentially in the past 15 years. In this article, a brief review of mindfulness for psychosis is presented, followed by a summary of the findings from a systematic search of meta-analyses from 2013 to February 2023. Current issues in this field are discussed and a future research agenda is presented. To access relevant scientific articles, databases such as Science Direct, Scopus Pro for Latin article databases for accessing English articles and Quest, SAGE Willy, Bed, Google Scholar, Science Citation Database, Magiran, SID, Civilica, Google Scholar, ISC, Irandoc, Noormagz, and the University of Tehran Scientific Research Journals for accessing Persian articles were searched. 20 meta-analyses published between 2013 and 2023 were identified. The reported effect sizes on reduction of psychotic symptoms ranged from small to large across reviews. Four key issues are identified and discussed – (1) Is mindfulness safe for psychosis? (2) Is home practice necessary and associated with clinical outcomes? (3) What is the impact of mindfulness practice versus metacognitive insights gained from practice on clinical outcomes? (4) Do the benefits translate into routine clinical practice? Mindfulness is a promising intervention that is both safe and effective for people with psychosis. Future research focused on assessing mechanisms of change and implementation into routine clinical practice should be prioritized.
