The aim of the present study was to examine the effectiveness of an emotion-focused intervention on marital intimacy and body image of women who experienced abuse in childhood. In this research, a multiple baseline single-case experimental design was utilized with participants. The statistical population of this study consisted of all women with experiences of sexual abuse during childhood residing in Karaj in the year 1403 (2024). Through purposive sampling, three women with a history of childhood sexual abuse were conveniently selected based on entry criteria for the study. The participants entered the research design sequentially, each one week apart after the baseline was established, and were assessed over 8 intervention sessions. The measurement tools used in this study were body image questionnaires and couples’ intimacy questionnaires. The findings were analyzed using visual analysis and descriptive statistics, trend analysis, and variability. The results showed that emotion-focused therapies were effective in improving body image (15.8% for the first participant, 18.3% for the second participant, and 10.3% for the third participant) and marital intimacy for all three participants (15.6% for the first participant, 37.7% for the second participant, and 18.6% for the third participant). The findings of this study indicate the efficacy of emotion-focused therapies on body image and marital intimacy of women with childhood trauma experiences. Therefore, it is suggested that psychologists and family therapists utilize this approach to improve body image and marital intimacy issues in women with a history of childhood trauma.
