Abstract:   (38 Views)
Present study was conducted with the aim of investigating the effectiveness of cognitive hypnotherapy on depressive symptoms in individuals diagnosed with major depressive disorder. The research employed a quasi-experimental design with pretest–posttest and a control group. The statistical population consisted of all patients with diagnosis of major depressive disorder in Bandar Abbas who had visited psychiatrists’ private practices in the city between April until end of September 2022. From this population, 30 individuals were selected through convenience sampling and randomly assigned to experimental and control groups. The research instrument was Beck Depression Inventory (BDI), which was administered to both groups at two time points: before and after the intervention. The experimental group participated in cognitive hypnotherapy sessions, whereas the control group received no intervention until the end of study. Data were analyzed using univariate analysis of covariance (ANCOVA) via SPSS software, version 26. The results indicated that cognitive hypnotherapy had a statistically significant effect on depressive symptoms in individuals with major depressive disorder (p < 0.01). Accordingly, it can be concluded that clinicians and psychologists may utilize an integration of hypnosis and cognitive therapy to reduce depressive symptoms in patients with major depressive disorder.
